Tesla Model 3 Performance takes on Model S Plaid in quarter-mile battle [Video]

The Tesla Model S Plaid has been out on public roads for just over three months. During that time we have learned it is a stupidly fast car, able to reach 60mph in under 2 seconds without breaking a sweat.

The Model 3 Performance is no slouch either when it comes to speed. But when you put it up head-to-head against a Plaid in the quarter-mile, it looks more like a VW Beetle than one of the fastest accelerating cars on the road.

Tucson Dragway in Arizona was the scene of the battle, where in the first race the Model 3 battery was at 93% and the Plaid was at 85%. From the moment the lights turned green, the Model S pulled away making it look like the Model 3 wasn’t even trying.

Looking at the time slip makes you realize just how fast the Plaid is – the Model 3 crossed the line in a time of 11.575 seconds. The Plaid completed the quarter-mile in a blistering 9.358 seconds.

The other two races yielded almost the exact same results, showing both electric sedans had robotic like consistency at the drag strip.

You can see all three races in the video below.
