One of the common complaints amongst Tesla Model 3 owners is that the EV doesn’t come with an automatic trunk or frunk, something which is standard of many comparably-priced vehicles. Thanks to an aftermarket solution from Hansshow, anyone can now add this great feature to the trunk and frunk in your Model 3.
After placing my order, my automatic trunk kit took about a week to arrive to the west coast of Canada in a nicely packaged box. There is no additional charge for shipping, but mine was delivered via DHL which did require a $29.04 brokerage/customs fee.
The kit is entirely plug and play, and requires no splicing of any wires. This is important because it does not void your warranty. We reached out to Tesla to confirm and received this response, indicating that other than issues related to the install, like water ingress, your warranty is not affected.
The kit can be installed yourself and there are a number of videos online to guide you through the installation process. The best one is this one which is 1hr37min long, but expect to spend 3-4 hours on the trunk installation if you are doing it yourself.
