Tesla releases rebate eligible Model Y RWD with LFP batteries in Canada, Long Range now also qualifies for rebate

Tesla Model Y sales in Canada are about to get a big boost as a new lower priced and rebate eligible Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variant has been released north of the border. Since it is priced below the threshold for the iZEV rebate, that unlocks the Model Y Long Range to be eligible for the $5,000 iZEV rebate as well.

In an update to the Design Studio last night, Tesla added a Model Y RWD for $59,990. It comes with a range of 394km (245 miles), top speed of 217km/h (135mph), and a 0-100km/h time of 6.9 seconds. Although Tesla doesn’t specify what battery this new variant has, we have been able to confirm with our sources it has lithium iron phosphate (LFP), the same as the Model 3 RWD.

According to the online configurator the Model Y RWD is only available with a black interior.

Given its price point, the Model Y RWD qualifies for the $5,000 iZEV incentive. More importantly the federal requirements state that any other higher trims of the same vehicle priced up to $70,000 also qualify, meaning the Long Range variant at $69,990 can now also get $5,000 off its purchase price (after tax).

Add in some provincial incentives, like those in British Columbia ($4,000) and Quebec ($7,000), and the Model Y RWD just became a very attractive option in Canada.

From what we have been told the new Model Y RWD will start deliveries in June or July, and the company is expecting a lot of orders in the first week, so if you want to be part of those first wave of deliveries, we suggest placing your order as soon as possible.

Given its LFP battery, this version is different than the Model Y RWD that was briefly offered back in 2021 for $56,290.
