Tesla Model S earns another 5-star safety rating from Euro NCAP

Tesla has earned another 5-star safety rating from European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP), this time for the Model S.

The perfect 5-star safety rating comes just a few weeks after the Model Y earned the highest score of any vehicle the organization has ever tested.

According to the safety organization, the Model S achieved very high scores in all testing categories.

For protecting adult occupants, the flagship sedan score 94%, obtaining perfect scores in lateral impact testing and rescue and extrication, and a near perfect 3.9 out of 4 in rear impact testing.

The scores for protecting child occupants were similarly high. The Model S achieved a 91% score in this category, bolstered by a perfect 24 out of 24 score for ‘crash test performance based on 6 & 10 year old children.’

The ‘Vulnerable Road Users’ category, which includes pedestrians and cyclists, resulted in an 85% score for the Model S sedan, with Euro NCAP noting that Tesla’s autonomous emergnecy braking (AEB) system avoided collisions “in almost all test scenarios.”

With its impressive AEB system, the Model S achieved its highest score of 98% in the Safety Assist category.

Perfect scores were achieved in Speed Assistance, Occupant Status Monitoring, Driver Monitoring, and Lane Support. The Model S lost its only points in this category in AEB Car-to-Car testing, ending with 5.7 out of a possible 6 points.
