Tesla sets another production and delivery record in Q3 2022

Tesla has published its preliminary production and delivery figures for the third quarter of 2022, easily setting new records for both figures as the company ramps production at two brand new factories.

Tesla Q3 2022 Production

Tesla’s four vehicles factories were able to produce 365,923 cars between July and September. That is a significant 42% increase from the 258,580 cars that were produced in the second quarter of the year, a three month period which was hampered by factory shutdowns in China and early growing pains at Giga Texas and Giga Berlin.

As always, the Model 3/Y accounted for the lion’s share of that figure, with 345,988 new cars produced at Fremont, Giga Shanghai, Giga Berlin, and Giga Texas.

The Model S/X took up the remaining 19,935 units.

Tesla Q3 2022 Deliveries

Citing logistical challenges in securing transportation to move cars from their factories to delivery centers, Tesla said they were able to deliver 343,830 cars in Q2.

Again, this is a significant 35% increase from Q2 where 254,695 cars were delivered around the world.

Of those, 295,324 were new Model 3/Y deliveries while 14,724 were new Model S/X deliveries.

Their previous quarterly records were both set in Q1 2022 where 305,407 vehicles were produced and 310,048 were delivered.

This now puts Tesla at 908,573 deliveries through the first three quarters of the year, just shy of their total delivery figure in 2021.

With a strong Q4 Tesla could come close to delivering 1.5 million cars this year, which would of course be a new record for the automaker.

Tesla said in the press release:

Historically, our delivery volumes have skewed towards the end of each quarter due to regional batch building of cars.  As our production volumes continue to grow, it is becoming increasingly challenging to secure vehicle transportation capacity and at a reasonable cost during these peak logistics weeks.  In Q3, we began transitioning to a more even regional mix of vehicle builds each week, which led to an increase in cars in transit at the end of the quarter.  These cars have been ordered and will be delivered to customers upon arrival at their destination.

Tesla will release their Q3 financial statements on October 19, 2022 at 4:30pm CT (5:30pm ET/2:30pm PT).
