Rivian is recalling nine R1S and 198 R1T vehicles due to a seatbelt issue after a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report.
As per reporting by Jalopnik, the issue looks like the seatbelts are improperly affixed to the B-pillar, allowing the seatbelt to come loose.
If you are an owner, you may notice a rattling sound from your height adjustor or a fair amount of slack in the assembly.
As per the NHTSA report:
Rivian has determined that on certain R1T and R1S vehicles, the seat belt height adjuster bolt for the front driver and/or passenger seat may have been cross threaded during the vehicle manufacturing process. This condition may decrease the strength of the bolt joint causing inadequate attachment of the front seat belts during loading.
Rivian discovered the issue on July 18 and issued the recall a month after an investigation started.
This is a voluntary recall, and affected owners have been contacted.
As per Rivian, there have been no reports of injuries or accidents due to the faulty seatbelts.
Any vehicle produced after August 8 from Rivian’s Normal, Illinois plant should also be fine as Rivian fixed the production issue in early August.
This is the second recall in the last few months for Rivian.
As we reported in May, Rivian recalled 502 R1T trucks due to a passenger seat airbag sensor issue.
