Tesla may have set a new sales record in China by delivering over 70,000 cars in the final month of 2021.
Ahead of the official figures being released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) next week, @teslashanghai says the automaker sold 70,500 cars in December, a number which excludes exports.
The information is of course unofficial, but the Twitter user has provided accurate figures on Chinese deliveries in the past.

The figure was also backed up by noted Tesla delivery tracker @TroyTeslike, who said according to his data the figure is possible based on a monthly production output of 65,000 cars at Giga Shanghai.

If true, it would smash the all-time high set in September when Tesla sold just over 52,000 Model 3 and Model Y cars domestically in China.
In that month, which was also the final month of Q3, Tesla exported just 3,853 cars to other markets, for a total sales volume of 56,006 cars.
Tesla is expected to report a similarly low number of exports in December, potentially even zero according to @TroyTeslike as the automaker prioritized deliveries for China since local incentives are set to drop by 30% on January 1, 2022.
If accurate, it would put Tesla within reach of 300,000 worldwide deliveries in Q4, and well over 900,000 cars delivered in 2021.
Tesla is expected to release their official Q4 and 2021 total figures on Sunday, January 2 2022.
