Following weeks and months of rumours, Rivian officially announced they will build their second manufacturing facility in Georgia.
The automaker made the announcement at a press conference with Gov. Brian Kemp and other state officials this morning, and also in the Q3 2021 Shareholder Letter released Thursday.
The new facility will be based in Morgan and Walton Counties east of Atlanta, and according to Rivian will be the largest economic development deal in Georgia’s history.
Construction is expected to start in the summer of 2022, and will eventually employ more than 7,500 workers.
Rivian says the new facility will build their “next generation of vehicles” and they anticipate starting production in 2024.
At its peak, the facility will have a production capacity of 400,000 vehicles annually.
Georgia came out ahead despite intense efforts by other to secure the new manufacturing facility.
The UK government was offering a number of incentives, and Rivian was reportedly in discussions with Fort Worth, Texas as another potential location.
