SpaceX has lowered the Starlink Mini price to $199 in Canada, making its portable satellite internet kit considerably cheaper than when it first arrived here. South of the border, the price has also been reduced to $149, down from $199.
UPDATE 4:46pm PT: The $199 price for Canada no longer appears on the Starlink website. It is unclear if it was a glitch or temporary offer, but it appears the regular price is now $299. The headline and article below have been updated to reflect this.
While SpaceX hasn’t provided a reason for the latest price cut, it could be clearing the way for the reported Starlink Mini 2, which is expected to feature a built-in battery. Details around the next-generation antenna were revealed in June.
The existing Starlink Mini combines the satellite dish and Wi-Fi router in one backpack-sized unit. The dish weighs about 1.1 kg and typically draws 25–40 watts, making it practical for camping, RV trips or working somewhere without cellular coverage.
It can also run from a compatible external battery with the appropriate cable, although it still needs a clear view of the sky to maintain a reliable connection.
