Tesla is expanding in India, opening its first approved body shop India while also launching test drives for the Model Y to another major city.
The new Tesla-approved collision repair facility is located in Pune, Maharashtra, one of India’s largest automotive manufacturing hubs.
The new Pune facility will specialize in collision repairs and body work. According to Tesla, owners will have access to genuine replacement parts, factory-approved repair procedures, trained technicians, and software diagnostics to ensure vehicles are restored to Tesla’s standards following an accident.
Having an approved body shop is an important milestone for any new market. While routine maintenance can often be completed through Service Centres, collision repairs often require specialized equipment and training, something that has been missing since Tesla began selling vehicles in India earlier this year.
At the same time, customers in Pune and the surrounding region can now book test drives for both the 2026 Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and the six-seat Model YL.
The announcement comes just over a year after Tesla officially launched sales in India, with the company steadily adding infrastructure to support new owners. Since entering the market, Tesla has opened Experience Centers in Mumbai, Delhi, Gurugram, and most recently Bengaluru, while continuing to expand its Supercharger network.
Although India’s high import duties continue to make Tesla’s vehicles significantly more expensive than in many other markets, it is clear the company is not giving up and continues to invest in the country. Despite this, the company has abandoned plans to manufacture vehicles in India.
