Tesla’s Lunar Silver paint option has officially sold out for the Tesla Model S and Tesla Model X, marking what is the final chapter for one of the automaker’s most distinctive premium finishes, as production of both vehicles winds down in Q2 2026.
According to an update to Tesla’s online configurator first spotted by our friend Ryan McCaffrey of the Ride The Lightning podcast, buyers attempting to configure a new Model S or Model X are now greeted with a clear message under the paint selector: “Lunar Silver paint is sold out.”
While some Lunar Silver vehicles remain available in existing inventory, the colour is no longer offered in Tesla’s online custom configurator—strongly suggesting the last units in the metallic shade have already rolled off the line, or soon will.

This message appears on both the Canadian and U.S. versions of the online configurator. All of the other colours, Stealth Grey, Pearl White Multicoat, Diamond Black, Frost Blue Metallic, and Ultra Red, are still available for custom configurations.
The End of the Model S and Model X
During Tesla’s Q4 2025 earnings call, CEO Elon Musk confirmed that production of the Model S and Model X will end in the second quarter of 2026.
“We are going to convert that production space to an Optimus factory. It’s part of our overall shift to an autonomous future.”
The decision closes a major chapter for Tesla’s two longest-running vehicles, both of which helped establish the company as a serious force in the automotive market, and change perceptions of what an electric vehicle (EV) can, and should be.
With factory space being repurposed for Tesla’s humanoid robot program, Optimus, the Fremont lines that once produced the company’s flagship sedan and SUV will soon serve a very different purpose.
