Victoria Police make arrest in Cybertruck vandalism case

The Victoria Police Department in British Columbia announced on Sunday they have arrested a suspect in connection with the vandalism of a Tesla Cybertruck that was keyed in the heart of downtown Victoria last week.

The incident, which unfolded in broad daylight in the 800-block of Humboldt Street, was caught on Sentry Mode and shared on social media, leading to thousands of comments and interactions.

The Cybertruck’s owner, Rajiv Khaneja, posted the video online shortly after the incident, showing a person walking by, and then backtracking to key the side of his Cybertruck. After we shared the post, the footage quickly gained traction and garnered millions of views, which ultimately led to tips that helped identify the suspect.

In an update shared on Sunday via X, Victoria Police confirmed that an individual had been “identified and arrested in the case of the keyed Cybertruck.” The department has not yet released further details, including the suspect’s name, possible charges, or information about a court date.

While there were countless comments on social media saying the damage was warranted because it was a Tesla, Khaneja said he remains thankful for the community support he’s received. In a post on X, he thanked those who shared “positive and uplifting comments.”

“I want to sincerely thank everyone who has contributed by sharing, commenting, and providing valuable tips regarding the recent vandalism incident involving my Tesla here in Victoria, BC. The outpouring of support has been inspiring and is deeply appreciated,” he said.

For now, Khaneja hopes the person responsible is held accountable and that the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of respect—for property and for each other.
