Tesla has officially started deliveries of the new Model Y in the United States. The U.S. deliveries come just a few days after the first deliveries in China, and interestingly come a full week before Tesla plans to hold special launch events at their Giga Texas and Fremont factories for the updated variant of the best-selling car in the world.
First New Model Y Deliveries
Tesla first unveiled the new Model Y in North America on January 23, 2025, indicating at the time that the first deliveries would begin in March. True to their word, the company delivered the first new Model Y over the weekend. One of the first known deliveries took place on Sunday, to a customer in Tennessee.
According to Jimmologist on the TMC forums, he placed his order for a Stealth Grey Launch Series Model Y on the night of the debut, and on March 2 took delivery in Knoxville.
New Model Y Launch Event
While the first deliveries are now underway in the U.S., the company is still planning a special launch event for the new Model Y. While exact details about the event are unclear, some customers have received invitations to attend a handoff event at either Giga Texas or the Fremont factory.
According to the details of the invitation shared online by Sawyer Merritt, who will be one of the attendees, the event will take place on Saturday, March 8, and will include a “behind-the-scenes walking tour of Gigafactory Texas.” No specific time for when the event will start has been provided yet, and there has been no information on whether either event will be livestreamed.
New Model Y Deliveries in Canada
Unfortunately there hasn’t been much progress with Canadian deliveries of the new Model Y. The first sign of impending deliveries in VINs being assigned to customers, but as of today we have received no reports of that happening north of the border. Customers who have placed orders are still seeing March estimated delivery dates, meaning the best-case scenario is that first deliveries are likely to begin in the second half of the month.
