The latest figures from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) show Tesla had their best month ever in August, selling 44,264 vehicles, a 34% increase over the previous month.
The record figures were achieved due to increased domestic sales as well as a large volume of exports to other countries.
Domestically Tesla China sold 12,885 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, representing an increase of nearly 50% over sales in July (8,621). Figures were not provided breaking down the number of sales between the Model 3 and Y.
Solidifying its status as Tesla’s primary vehicle export hub, Giga Shanghai exported 31,379 vehicles to other markets in August. That is a nearly 30% increase over July when Tesla exported 24,347 vehicles.
The increase in the number of exports is thanks to the Model Y, which began deliveries in Europe in late August.
Combined Tesla reported a record 44,264 vehicle sales in August. The numbers are particularly impressive when considering the fact that Giga Shanghai was shut down for four days last month due to the ongoing global chip shortage.
