Tesla Sets Next-Gen Roadster Reveal for October 1 – ‘Go For Launch’

roadster countdown to launch

Tesla has finally announced the launch date of the next-gen Roadster. The company will hold a reveal event on October 1 and has teased a much-talked-about feature.

After a decade of releasing every product except the Roadster reboot, Tesla has finally shared a date to take the wraps off the iconic car. The company shared a teaser on X, indicating fans can mark October 1 on their calendar for the unveiling.

The teaser image above also stoked rumours that the refreshed Roadster will debut with cold-gas thrusters borrowed from sister company SpaceX. If reports from The Information are correct, the thrusters will allow the Roadster to temporarily lift off the ground. Tesla is reportedly developing two versions, with one able to take to fly and another that sticks to the ground. Both will be built at Giga Texas.

The teaser image all but confirms this, as the words “Where we’re going…” are hidden on the bumper. Those words come from the iconic ‘Back To The Future’ movie series, where Doc Brown says, “where we’re going, we don’t need roads.”

According to the same report, the flying Roadster will cost a pretty penny, possibly over a million dollars. However, the car is claimed to be so powerful that the demo unit would be operated remotely by someone outside the car to protect their eardrums. Whatever the final price, the Roadster is a halo product; hence, it will have a limited production run.

Tesla has updated its website with a countdown timer to the October 1 debut, and along with the post on X, Tesla already started sending out invitations to reservations holders, confirming the event will take place in Waco, Texas.

Despite taking time out to develop a variety of products, from EVs to AI to robotics, Tesla has continued to hype the Roadster. CEO Elon Musk boasted the supercar will incorporate a SpaceX package, referring to the thrusters. VP of Engineering Lars Moravy claimed the Roadster is the “last, best driver’s car” before autonomous vehicles flood the roads. Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen stated last month that the car was getting close to its big reveal.
