Tesla has quietly made another change to the Canadian version of the Model 3 Premium Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD), this time reducing the battery warranty coverage.
When the updated Model 3 lineup first appeared on Tesla’s Canadian website, the Premium RWD was listed with an 8-year/192,000 km battery and drive unit warranty. As of Thursday, that coverage has been revised downward to 8 years or 160,000 km.
The change represents a reduction of 32,000 km in warranty coverage. While disappointing, the vehicle now aligns with Tesla’s standard warranty terms for its entry-level models. The Model Y RWD also carries an 8 year/160,000 km battery and drive unit warranty.
Tesla has not commented on the update, but it is not the first time the company has updated a spec of the new Model 3 Premium RWD. Shortly after orders opened, the 0-100 km/h acceleration time went from 4.2 seconds to 5.2 seconds.
These Shanghai-built units are expected to feature lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs supplied by CATL, Tesla’s long-time battery partner in China, despite rumours they will be equipped with LFP packs from Sunwoda.
CATL’s LFP batteries have been widely used in Tesla’s RWD vehicles globally. These batteries offer several advantages, including improved long-term durability and the ability to be routinely charged to 100%. Tesla specifically recommends regular full charging for LFP-equipped vehicles, allowing owners to consistently access the full rated 463 km of range.

That differs from nickel-based battery packs, where Tesla generally advises daily charging limits of around 80% to help preserve battery health over time.
While the reduction in warranty mileage may disappoint some prospective buyers, 160,000 km remains competitive within the EV industry, particularly for an entry-level luxury sedan priced below $40,000. For many Canadian drivers, that coverage still represents years of typical driving before reaching the mileage threshold.
