Tesla is now officially informing Canadian buyers of the Model 3 Premium Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) about the controversial specification changes that have surfaced over the past several weeks, marking the first direct communication from the company on the matter.
Customers who placed orders for the Shanghai-built Model 3 Premium RWD are beginning to receive prompts within their Tesla accounts asking them to “Accept and Proceed With Delivery” after reviewing updated vehicle specifications.
The notice outlines the revised specs that have changed since orders first opened in Canada earlier this month, including:
- Acceleration to 100km/h revised from 4.2 seconds to 6.2 seconds (it was also listed as 5.2 seconds for about three weeks)
- Peak Supercharging speed reduced from 250 kW to 175 kW
- Battery and drive unit warranty reduced from 8 years/192,000 km to 8 years/160,000 km
The updated information appears directly within the customer delivery workflow, meaning buyers must now acknowledge and accept the revised specifications before proceeding with delivery.
The move is a notable shift in Tesla’s handling of the situation. Until now, the company had quietly updated specs on its online configurator without issuing any public explanation or proactively contacting reservation holders. Those silent revisions led to growing frustration among some buyers, particularly after the acceleration figure changed multiple times over the span of three weeks.
Tesla has still not publicly explained why the specifications changed after orders opened, nor has it announced any hardware revisions tied to the reduced performance and charging figures.
However, as we recently reported, Tesla has been offering goodwill compensation to some customers who contacted the company directly about the changes. Several buyers have reported receiving offers such as temporary Full Self-Driving (Supervised) trials, free Supercharging credits, or other Tesla services after escalating concerns through Tesla Canada’s resolutions team.
For buyers who no longer wish to proceed, Tesla is still allowing orders to be cancelled prior to delivery, with deposits refunded.
Despite all the change, the Model 3 Premium RWD remains Tesla’s lowest-priced vehicle ever offered in Canada, starting at C$39,490. The vehicle is expected to feature a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack supplied by CATL, which allows for regular 100% charging and provides up to 463 km of range.
With customers now being formally asked to accept the revised specifications, deliveries are now closer than ever. Based on information received by several of our readers, deliveries could begin as soon as next week in Ontario.
