Tesla launches high-definition Projection Lights for Model 3 and Model Y

Tesla has introduced a new accessory for Model 3 and Model Y owners – high-definition projection lights, often referred to as puddle lights.

The Model 3 and Model Y come with puddle lights as standard equipment, but they are just that, lights that illuminate the ground every time the driver or passenger door is opened (hence the name puddle lights). With this upgrade, instead of just a light, a Tesla wordmark is projected onto the ground in high definition.

Installation of the lights isas straightforward as the video below demonstrates. Each package comes with a set of two projection lights—one for the driver’s side and one for the passenger’s side door, so if you want to upgrade all four doors, you will have to buy two packages.

The Model 3/Y Projection Lights are priced at $90 in Canada and $65 in the United States. This is more expensive than aftermarket options that have been available for years, but come with the added benefit of being OEM (original equipment manufacturer), and won’t pose any warranty issues.

Aftermarket puddle lights, and these OEM lights, tap into the same power source that operates the door’s electrical systems, including the window control mechanism. When aftermarket lights malfunction, it can cause several potential issues, including that the windows might not lower or raise as they should when the door is opened or closed.
