Tesla China had another strong month for both domestic deliveries and exports from Giga Shanghai in June.
According to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) released this week, Tesla delivered 52,920 vehicles to customers in China last month, while exporting another 36,171 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles from Giga Shanghai to international markets.
Combined, the figures match the previously reported wholesale total of 89,091 vehicles, the company’s highest monthly volume of 2026.
Model Y Remains China’s Best-Selling Vehicle
June’s domestic sales gave Tesla a 3.3% share of China’s overall passenger vehicle market, making it the country’s eighth best-selling automotive brand for the month.
The Model Y once again led all vehicles in China, maintaining its position as the nation’s best-selling passenger car. Approximately 73% of Tesla’s June sales were Model Ys, with the remaining 27% made up of Model 3 sedans.
China’s battery electric vehicle (BEV) market also reached a new milestone in June, with BEVs accounting for a record 42.8% of all passenger vehicle sales. Within that segment, Tesla captured a 7.7% market share.
Looking Beyond the Numbers
At first glance, Tesla’s year-to-date retail sales in China remain below the same period last year. Through the first six months of 2026, domestic deliveries are down roughly 9% year-over-year.
However, those figures don’t tell the full story. China’s overall passenger vehicle market has also contracted compared to last year. Despite selling fewer vehicles domestically in China, Tesla has actually increased its share of the market, rising from approximately 2.4% during the first half of 2025 to about 2.7% this year.
That indicates Tesla is outperforming the broader market rather than losing ground to competitors.
Giga Shanghai Continues to Balance Domestic and Export Demand
As we have previously reported, the factory regularly adjusts production between domestic deliveries and exports depending on demand across global markets. During the second quarter, Giga Shanghai posted record wholesale volumes, showing the factory is continuing to operate at a very high level.
When domestic demand has been met, additional vehicles can be exported to international markets where Giga Shanghai supplies customers across Asia-Pacific, Europe, and Canada.
