Tesla’s sales performance in China is continuing to show strong momentum in 2026, with new figures from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) revealing another impressive month for the automaker.
In April, Tesla sold 79,478 China-made Model 3 and Model Y vehicles from Giga Shanghai. This is a wholesale figure that includes both domestic deliveries in China and exports to international markets, and represents a 36% increase compared to April 2025, when Tesla recorded 58,459 wholesale units from the factory.
The 79,478-unit result also marks Tesla’s strongest April performance ever from Giga Shanghai, surpassing the previous April record set in 2023.
While April’s total was down 7.2% compared to March’s 85,670 units, the broader trend continues to point upward. Through the first four months of 2026, Tesla has sold 292,876 vehicles from Giga Shanghai, up 26.7% year-over-year.
The latest result also extends Tesla China’s streak of year-over-year monthly gains to six consecutive months, a notable turnaround after a difficult 2025.
Giga Shanghai remains one of Tesla’s most important production hubs globally, supplying vehicles not only for China but also for export markets throughout Asia and Europe. According to the CPCA data, exports accounted for 29,563 units in April, while domestic retail sales came in at 56,107 vehicles.
Soon, those figures will also include Canada. Earlier this month Tesla updated its online configurator to add a new Model 3 Premium Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and Performance sourced from China. The introduction of these imported models allowed Tesla to dramatically slash prices, with the Model 3 RWD starting under $40,000. The Model 3 Performance also saw a 17% drop in price compared to the previous U.S.-made model.
