Tesla adds Balance Bike for Kids to online shop

Tesla fans have been hoping for years that the company might eventually release an electric bicycle. While Rivian has already ventured into that space through ALSO, Tesla has yet to, but is perhaps taking its first baby step with the launch of a Balance Bike for Kids.

According to the Tesla Shop listing, the Balance Bike for Kids is designed for children between 2 and 5 years old and features a lightweight magnesium frame, an adjustable seat with five height settings, and a futuristic design that matches Tesla’s minimalist styling.

The bike is finished with the Tesla wordmark on the frame and the iconic “T” logo on the front.

While it is just a balance bike, it still carries a premium price tag – $310 in Canada and $225 in the United States. Even with that high price, like most of Tesla’s new items, demand appears to have been strong.

At the time of publication, the bike was already listed as out of stock in Tesla’s online shop, with customers only able to sign up for restock notifications. Those that were able to successfully place an order are expected to begin receiving them in late August.

From personal experience, balance bikes are one of the best ways to teach your kids how to ride a bike, and I can’t recommend them enough. Because they learn to balance first instead of relying on training wheels, they naturally develop the confidence and coordination needed to transition to a regular bike. We used balance bikes with both of our kids, and they were both able to skip training wheels altogether.

It’s not the electric bike many have been hoping Tesla would build, but maybe it is a sign of things to come?
