SpaceX is giving residents near the site of its massive upcoming Starbase Louisiana project a big break on their internet bills, offering 50% off Starlink Residential service in parts of Vermilion Parish.
The company has introduced what it calls the “Vermilion Parish Area Discount,” cutting the standard monthly price of Starlink Residential plans in half for both new and existing customers. New subscribers also won’t have to pay upfront for Starlink hardware.
The offer comes just days after SpaceX officially announced plans to build Starbase Louisiana, a massive $100 billion spaceport along the Gulf Coast that is expected to eventually support thousands of Starship launches each year.
Starlink discount automatically applied
According to Starlink, eligibility is determined solely by the service address. Existing customers within the designated area don’t need to sign up for the promotion, with the 50% discount automatically appearing on their next bill.
With the deal, Starlink’s entry-level Residential 100Mbps plan drops to just US$27.50 per month with the discount.
There is currently no set end date for the deal. Starlink says the discount will continue while a customer’s service address remains eligible, although SpaceX says it can stop offering it to new subscribers at any time. Existing customers will receive at least six months’ notice if their discount is discontinued.
Starbase Louisiana
SpaceX is planning to begin construction on Starbase Louisiana in 2027, with the first Starship launches currently targeted for 2029. The company is investing heavily in the site, which is expected to include launch pads, mission control facilities, propellant production and other infrastructure needed to support high-frequency Starship operations.
SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell hinted at the special pricing during last week’s Starbase announcement, saying, “And we’re going to make Starlink available to everybody that wants one or needs one at far more affordable pricing even than you see online.”
