SpaceX has started selling the V5 Starlink dish. The new residential terminal will see global availability as the company accelerates production.
With a weight of 1.1 kg, the V5 dish is significantly lighter than the V4, which tips the scales at 2.9 kg. The improved version also boasts a smaller footprint, measuring only 384 mm x 306 mm x 34 mm.
SpaceX has also gimped the V5, with a maximum download speed of 375+ Mbps, down from 400+ Mbps on the previous model.
The next generation Starlink Kit is designed to deliver reliable, high-speed home internet. Starlink V5 has a smaller form factor and lightweight design with greater power efficiency than the Starlink V4.

The step-down in download speeds, however, might have little effect on everyday use. The actual speed depends on which service plan is active and other factors, such as local traffic congestion and time of day. SpaceX states the V5 is ideal for streaming, video calls, and working from home.
However, what the V5 lacks in speed, it makes up in efficiency. Average power consumption is 35 – 50 W, about half as power-hungry as its predecessor.
The V5 Starlink dish is not targeted at users who need to stay connected on the go. SpaceX will release a refreshed Starlink Mini for the road-warrior crowd.
SpaceX touts the V5 dish’s ease of setup and installation, and the inclusion of a Router Mini for providing Wi-Fi in the home. The latter is also designed for efficiency and draws less power than the bigger Router 2 and 3.
Also included in the kit are the kickstands for the dish and router, pipe adapter, Starlink, AD, and Ethernet cables.
Prospective buyers should be prepared to pay a bit more for monthly plans, as SpaceX recently raised prices on most of its data plans.
