Polestar ZEV support program gives $5,000 off after iZEV rebate cut

Polestar has stepped in to support Canadian electric vehicle (EV) buyers with a new $5,000 ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle) support program after the federal government abruptly ended the iZEV rebate program due to exhausted funds.

Earlier this month the federal government announced the iZEV fund was running low on funds, with just under $72 million left in the bank, enough for about 14,360 more $5,000 rebates, or about 2-3 weeks worth of sales.

However, there was a rush of orders after the announcement, and the funds were exhausted within just 2 days and the program was paused indefinitely, unlikely to return.

The decision to end the iZEV program took the industry and consumers by surprise, as many Canadian EV buyers had factored the $5,000 rebate into their purchasing decisions. To help, automakers such as General Motors (GM), Nissan, Volkswagen, Hyundai, and Kia, all offered customers a $5,000 discount on some of their EV, but only until January 31, 2025.

Now Polestar has launched its own incentive, which provides a $5,000 discount on 2025 Polestar 2 purchases until February 28, 2025.

Program Details and Eligibility

The Polestar ZEV support program runs from now until February 28, 2025, and is available only to residents of Canada who hold a valid Canadian driver’s license. Each eligible individual is limited to one credit, which is deducted directly from the negotiated purchase price after taxes. Importantly, the offer cannot be applied retroactively to past transactions.

Other key conditions include:

  • The offer applies only to new, in-stock 2025 Polestar 2 vehicles.
  • It cannot be used for leased vehicles or model vehicles designated for promotional use.
  • The credit cannot be combined with other Polestar offers.
  • The purchase must be completed within the program’s timeframe, and delivery must occur on or before February 28, 2025.
