Penske Truck Leasing ordered 750 Ford E-Transit electric vans for its fleet in the United States.
The company will send the first vans to California. While the rest of the country will receive vehicles later in the year.
Penske will make the E-Transit vans available for short-term rentals and longer-term leases.
The company will take delivery of the first several vans in the coming weeks.
Art Vallely, President of Penske Truck Leasing, has this to say on the purchase.
We’re excited to help bring these new vehicles to market as both a rental and full-service lease option for our customers. We continue to expand and diversify our fleet of electric vehicles and to offer new options for customers seeking more sustainable choices when it comes to transportation.
Previous to the order, Penske had a preproduction Ford E-Transit to test as part of Ford’s Commercial Business Pilot Program.
Penske did not confirm what configuration it chose or whether it is buying a range of Ford E-Transits. Nor did Penske note if they chose the high, medium or low roof version or a mix of the three for their order.
Ford had an order book of 10,000 E-Transits from 300 commercial customers at launch. The company started shipping production vehicles back in February.
