The design of Lucid’s upcoming Cosmos SUV has been revealed in new patent filing. The midsize electric SUV is expected to debut later this year and compete directly with the Tesla Model Y, Rivian R2, and other electric crossovers.
While Lucid has not officially confirmed the vehicle shown in the filings is the Cosmos, nor that it is the final design, it matches previews the company has previously shared of its upcoming midsize platform.
The patent, filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office, reveal a crossover that borrows heavily from the design language of the Gravity. A full-width front light signature, sculpted hood, and aerodynamic profile are all present, although the Cosmos appears more compact and sportier than its larger sibling. The rear design features a sharply sloped roofline, integrated spoiler elements, and prominent Lucid branding stretching across the tailgate.
The Cosmos is arguably the most important vehicle in Lucid’s history. While the company has earned praise for the luxury-focused Air sedan and Gravity SUV, both vehicles occupy premium price segments that limit sales volume. The Cosmos is expected to change that by targeting a starting price of around US$50,000 (~C$68,500), putting it much closer to the heart of the EV market.
Interestingly, several variations of the drawings suggest Lucid could be preparing multiple trim levels. Some images show a more aggressive front fascia with larger lower air intakes, while others feature unique rear bumper treatments that could hint at performance-oriented variants.
Using AI and drawings from the patent, here is what the Cosmos could look like in its final form.
Beyond styling, the Cosmos could deliver some impressive technical specifications. The SUV is expected to ride on Lucid’s new Atlas 800-volt architecture, enabling ultra-fast charging speeds. Company executives have previously suggested the vehicle could add roughly 200 miles (322 km) of range in about 14 minutes, while also supporting bidirectional charging features such as vehicle-to-home (V2H) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G).

Lucid is expected to formally unveil the Cosmos later this year, with production beginning shortly after. Initial manufacturing is reportedly planned for Saudi Arabia before North American production ramps up at the company’s Arizona facility. If Lucid can deliver on its promised pricing, performance, and efficiency targets, the Cosmos could become the company’s first true volume seller—and its strongest challenge yet to Tesla’s dominance in the electric SUV market.
