Earlier this year Lucid revealed on Twitter they planned to expand into Europe sometime in 2022. Based on a recent report from Autocar, it looks like the Air electric sedan could launch outside of North America by the middle of the year.
Citing an unnamed company spokesperson, the automotive publication says the automaker will begin exporting the Air to Europe and the Middle East in “June or July,” followed by a further expansion into China in 2023.
The publication says that while the spokesperson didn’t specify which European countries would be getting the luxury electric sedan first, another employee has previously stated customers in Germany would be at the top of the list.
After Germany, sales will begin in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Italy, Monaco, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Norway.
Customers in the United Kingdom (UK) will likely have to wait a little longer until Lucid begins making right-hand drive versions of the Air. Production of this configuration is expected to begin later this year, with deliveries starting sometime in 2023.
The report did not detail what European pricing for the Lucid Air will be, but did reveal they have seen the automakers dual-motor rear-axle. Dubbed the Megawatt rear axle, it will reportedly be able to produce 1,341 horsepower.
Add in the front motor and the total power output could be around 1,600 horsepower.
It will still be a while until we see the Megawatt rear axle as it is set to be introduced on the Lucid Gravity SUV, which was recently delayed until 2024.
