Canadian pricing for Polestar 2 EV revealed, deliveries to begin in September

In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, Polestar recently began production of its Polestar 2 electric vehicle (EV). Now the Swedish automaker has revealed it’s Canadian pricing and availability, and it unfortunately won’t qualify for any rebates.

The Polestar 2 is an all-wheel-drive 5-door electric fastback which will have a base price of $69,900 CDN. Without revealing the number of pre-orders so far, Hugues Bissonette, head of Polestar Canada, is expecting brisk sales with plans for retail locations, named Polestar Spaces, in Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal.

We are proud to offer a premium electric vehicle at such a competitive price – the combination of which we feel has a great opportunity in the Canadian marketplace. Based on the extremely positive reaction from the market, we expect strong sales throughout Canada.

The base price can quickly increase by adding options and custom configurations.

Buyers can add the $6,000 CAD Performance package, giving the car 20″ black polished forged alloy wheels and Brembo front brakes (and gold seat belts). If you want just the 20″ wheels, that will add $1,200 to the base price.

If you want a colour anything other than the stock black, you’ll have to pay $1,200 for other metallic colour options. You can also customize with a Nappa leather interior for an additional $5,000.

The car will come standard with its Pilot and Plus package, giving it Pilot Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, a lane keeping aid, 360° camera, heated steering wheel, premium Harmon Kardon sound, and more. It will also be the first car in the world offered with an infotainment system powered by Android, with Google Assistant, Google Maps and the Google Play Store built in.

There are lease and financing options available directly from Polestar. According to their website, a 48-month lease term with an annual driving limit of 16,000km and a down payment of $4,000 will result in a lease payment of $881/month on a base configuration.

Financing rates appear to be as low as 0.9% as of publication, based on numbers provided on the Polestar 2 configurator.

The Polestar 2 will feature 408 horsepower and 487lb-ft of torque from a 78kWh battery pack. The EV hasn’t received its EPA certification yet, but Polestar is targeting a range of 440km (273 miles) on a single charge.

That number might be optimistic, as the often generous WLTP standard rated the EV at 470km (295 miles). When it does finally receive its EPA rating, we wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up closer to 400km.

According to the Polestar website they are not taking new orders at this time.
