Canada’s largest mobile EV charger goes live this week in B.C.’s East Kootenay region

British Columbia’s Easy Kootenay region will this week become home to Canada’s largest mobile electric vehicle (EV) charger.

Teck Resources Limited, with help from Portable Electric and the Community Energy Association are launching the innovative program to help increase public awareness and engagement on the future of low-carbon transportation.

The mobile charger features two Level 2, 7 kilowatt (kW) chargers capable of providing 75km (46 miles) of range per hour to EVs simultaneously. Not only can it charge EVs, it can also provide a boost to e-bikes, power live events, farmer’s markets and film sets, and even provide backup power for wildfire response crews.

It can also be recharged by solar panels or existing EV charging infrastructure. And it can all be done emissions free and in complete silence.

The battery will move around to events and showcase opportunities throughout the Kootenays. More information on its whereabouts will be available at communityenergy.ca. If you are an organizer and want to secure the battery for an event, you can email mobilebattery@communityenergy.bc.ca.
