Tesla has made another round of price cuts, this time on the Model Y and only in Canada, reducing the price of the electric SUV by $4,000. Most importantly, this means the Model Y Long Range (LR) now qualifies for a combined $12,000 in rebates if you live in Quebec.
According to an update to the Design Studio on Thursday night, the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and LR variants both saw price reductions, while the price of the Performance variant stayed the same.
The Model Y RWD now starts at $53,990, down $,4000 from the previous starting price of $57,990. At the same time, the Model Y LR has also been reduced $4,000, now starting at $63,990. (h/t: @_hnwm)
Interestingly, with the price drop, the new Model 3 RWD and Model Y RWD are now priced at the same amount, $53,990.
As we noted, this price drop is significant not only because the Model Y, which was already the most popular EV in Canada based on iZEV rebates, is now cheaper, but it is also now priced below $65,000. That is the threshold for Quebec’s Roulez vert program, which offers buyers of an eligible EV a rebate of $7,000.
Combine that with the federal iZEV rebate of $5,000, and the Model LR is about to become even more popular in Quebec.
UPDATE: We’ve received several questions from customers who have already placed an order but haven’t taken delivery yet, wondering if they will get the lower price. If this is your situation, Tesla will adjust your price accordingly prior to delivery. This should be done automatically, but you can always contact your Delivery Advisor to confirm.
The Quebec rebate site has not yet been updated to show the Model Y LR as eligible, but we expect that to happen on Friday.
Let us know in the comments below if you are going to buy the Model Y now with these new prices.
