Tesla Model Y deliveries to begin in Europe in September, some countries see price drop [Update]

Yesterday we reported that Tesla was about to change gears and begin deliveries of the made-in-China (MIC) Model Y in Germany before the opening of Giga Berlin.

The automaker has now made it official, updating the Design Studio in most European countries to show deliveries will begin in just two months.

Along with the update, the price of the electric SUV has also been lowered in some countries.

Germany

In Germany, Tesla’s website is now showing deliveries will begin in September. The price for the Long Range variant has been reduced from €58,620 ($86,900 CAD) to €56,990 ($84,500 CAD).

The Performance variant is still showing an estimated delivery date of early 2022, but has also seen a price drop from €65,620 ($97,300 CAD) to €63,990 ($94,800 CAD).

Austria

The story is similar in Austria, where the estimated delivery date for the LR variant has changed from the end of 2021 to September.

Both variants have seen bigger price drops than in Germany. The LR now starts at €57,490 ($85,250 CAD), down from €63,000 ($93,400 CAD), while the Performance Model Y now starts at €63,490 ($94,150 CAD) instead of €69,000 ($102,300 CAD).

Other Countries

All of the following countries we checked are also showing the LR Model Y arriving from China in September. Most notably missing from the list is the United Kingdom (UK).

  • Belgium
  • Czechia
  • Denmark
  • Greece
  • Spain
  • France
  • Germany
  • Croatia
  • Iceland
  • Italy
  • Luxembourg
  • Hungary
  • Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Austria
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Slovenia
  • Switzerland
  • Sweden
  • Finland

The early deliveries of the Model Y to Europe should provide a big boost to Tesla’s quarterly and annual delivery volumes. The automaker is already dominating in most European markets, like Germany where data from June showed Tesla sales increasing 431% year-over-year to help EVs take 12% market share.

UPDATE: In an email to existing reservation holders, Tesla has confirmed the deliveries, even saying they could begin in August. The Model Y’s will also have the HEPA filters and Bioweapon Defense Mode from Giga Shanghai.
