Tesla now manufacturing Model Y’s with new headlights

After first appearing on the Tesla Model 3 last year, the new headlights have now made their way into the Model Y.

The updated design was found on Alex Kaess’s Performance Model Y, which was built just yesterday, February 5, 2021 at Fremont.

Kaess hasn’t actually taken delivery of his car yet. He was notified by his Sales Advisor at Serramonte Tesla (just south of San Francisco) that his Model Y had arrived on the lot, so decided to go and check it out.

According to Kaess, his Model Y has a VIN ending in 124XXX, and does not feature the new center console. He was unable to check to see if it also has the new HEPA filters that are now included in Model Y’s being built at Giga Shanghai.

We first reported on the new headlights in August last year when Drive Tesla received leaked images of the updated design. The lights feature a more distinct light pattern, and based on markings on the headlight housing will soon have adaptive features that will likely be activated through a future software update.
