Tesla Model S could see further price drop tonight after Lucid Air announcement

After cutting the price of the Tesla Model S earlier this week, the automaker’s flagship sedan could see a further price drop to $69,420 USD later tonight…if you are to believe CEO Elon Musk.

Musk made the revelation on Twitter, in an apparent response to Lucid Motors’ announcement earlier this morning, putting their base Lucid Air at $69,990 USD after incentives.

If you recall, the Long Range Plus Model S now starts at $71,990 USD, putting the two luxury EVs just $2,000 apart.

Whether to believe Musk will drop the price of the Model S even further is another question.

On the yes side, given his history of being…charismatic…it wouldn’t surprise us if he actually follows through with it. If you don’t know, 69 and 420 are two numbers that seem to have a significant attachment to the CEO, appearing numerous times at seemingly random opportunities.

On the no side, given that the base Lucid Air won’t be out for another 2 years, is a price adjustment right now necessary? Probably not, but it would make for a lot of free advertising for the automaker.

We’ll have to wait and see. Do you think the Model S price will change tonight? Will it apply to Canada and other markets, when after converting to local currency takes away from the mythical number? Let us know in the comments below.
