While Canadians continue to wait patiently for the release of the Tesla solar roof, the product is now reportedly available across the United States.
Since its launch the solar roof tiles have been limited to certain areas of the country, mainly those within a relatively close proximity to a Tesla Energy warehouse. That has now changed, according to a report from Electrek.
A source familiar with the company’s plans says the solar roof product is now available to any customer in the United States, regardless of their location.
That doesn’t guarantee that anyone can now get a solar roof. All potential customer will still need to have their house surveyed to make sure it is suitable for the product.
The shift in policy is apparently part of an effort to substantially increase solar roof uptake. According to the same source, Tesla wants their solar roof installations to exceed solar panel installations by the end of 2022.
Since last year Canadians have been hopeful the solar roof would be coming north of the border. A job posting at the time indicated it could be coming soon, but nothing materialized.
However in February of this year Elon Musk said on Twitter it was scheduled to come to Canada sometime towards the end of 2021.
