Volkswagen’s ID.3 delayed again until September amid continuing software issues

Just two months ago Jürgen Stackmann, Member of the Board of Management Volkswagen Brand for Sales, Marketing & After Sales for Volkswagen (VW) took to Twitter to announce their electric ID.3 was on schedule for a summer launch.

That was followed up with another statement posted to Twitter one month ago, saying the first reservation holders will be able to order their cars by mid-June.

It appears Stackmann was half right, as customers will be able to officially order their cars on June 17. The catch is they now won’t be delivered until September due to the well documented software issues.

Not only will the ID.3, which stands for Intelligent Design, be delayed, it will also be delivered to customers without some of the key software features.

According to Autocar those features will include the augmented reality functions for the car’s head-up display and some of the App Connect features.

Volkswagen says a future software update will come to those vehicles missing the features. But if you don’t want a half-baked car, the German automaker says orders can be delayed until the software issues are resolved.

The ID.3 was first released for pre-orders in May 2019, and quickly sold out of the 30,000 special First Edition run of the car. It starts at about $45,000 CAD and will have a range of between 330km to 550km depending on the trim level.
