Tesla likely to push Roadster production back to 2022

When Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled the second generation Roadster in November 2017, the start of production for the electric supercar was targeted to be sometime in 2020. Late last year that was pushed back to 2021, but it appears the date may now be even later according to a recent interview.

In his second appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Musk said there were bigger priorities for Tesla, meaning production would likely be delayed until 2022.

Likening the Roadster production to dessert, Musk said that the automaker had bigger priorities to complete first, which he referred to as “the meat and potatoes and greens and stuff”.

Those priorities included ramping up production of the new Model Y, getting construction of Giga Berlin complete and delivering the first Cybertrucks.

Musk also mentioned that when the Roadster is released, it will be so fast that it will “unfair” to other vehicles. He said that Tesla would be taking thing “from the rocket world and [putting them] on a car.

Other topics covered by Rogan and Musk during the nearly 2-hour interview included his new son, recent comments about selling all his possessions, Neuralink, and or course the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
