Tesla Cybertruck could come with V2V charging capabilities

Tesla said earlier this year bidirectional charging capabilities would eventually be coming to its vehicles, but likely not until about 2025. Bidirectional charging comes in several forms, and one of those could be coming on the Cybertruck, which is expected to start deliveries in just a few months.

Tesla has been handing out some free Cybertruck-related merchandise at Service Centers over the last week, including a Cybertruck hat. The free swag now also includes a colouring book, which was spotted today at a Service Center in Michigan. One page of the book for the Cybertruck fans kids to colour in is the graffiti-style logo, but the page also has a caption which says the Cybertruck will have “enough battery power to charge a Tesla.”

This is of course a kids colouring book, and bidirectional charging may not come with the Cybertruck, but with excitement around the electric truck ramping to record highs as production nears, it seems strange that Tesla would give the go-ahead for this to be printed if it were not true.

If it is accurate, the question is how will Tesla integrate it. Given the statements made earlier this year it will likely only be vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), as the caption suggests, and not vehicle-to-load (V2L), vehicle-to-home (V2H), or vehicle-to-grid (V2G).

At a Cars & Coffee event in which Tesla’s Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen brought out a recent build of the Cybertruck to the Petersen Museum, there was an opening in the bed of the truck where it looked like an outlet should be, but it was empty. By saying the Cybertruck has enough battery power to charge a Tesla, the automaker could be referring to it being done through a 120V (or 240V) outlet that will be placed here in production versions of the Cybertruck.

There was also that time when CEO Elon Musk essentially confirmed some form of power sharing, when saying on Twitter in 2021 that the Cybertruck would be able to power a tiny home.
