BC Hydro has announced it will add connectors for Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) at its electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across British Columbia.
Over the last month five major automakers have announced they will be adopting NACS on their future EV starting in 2025. With the Combined Charging System (CCS) quickly fading into the background, one of British Columbia’s largest EV charging network will also start supporting NACS.
In a tweet on Friday the province’s electric utility provider BC Hydro said it is working with its suppliers to see when NACS connectors will be available for their future charging stations, as well as working on a way to retrofit their existing stations. (h/t: @rich_teer)
The BC Hydro EV network first started in the summer of 2013 and has grown to over 70 fast charging stations across the province, with many more planned to be built in the future. While many of these are 50kW DC fast chargers, they have started installing 100kW and 150kw stations, with plans to expand their network to 194 sites.
Despite the slower speed you will often find Tesla owners plugged in with either the CHAdeMO or CCS adapter as the BC Hydro EV charging network covers a lot of areas throughout the province without Supercharger coverage.
BC Hydro also uses FLO EV chargers in its network, which has already announced its support for NACS.
