Tesla shows off its latest Megapack installation in California

Tesla took to its YouTube page to show off its latest Megapack project in Monterey County, California.

The 240 MW Megapack system provides storage capacity to Arevon’s California Flats renewable energy project.

The California Flats project is one of the largest solar farms in the state, stretching over 2,900 acres. The site has a variety of 280 MW of solar panels, which can power up to 100,000 homes annually with renewable energy.

As many Megapack projects do, the California Flats project will store excess energy to release to the grid during high-demand times or if the grid goes down.

The company finished installation a few months ago, and the Megapacks are now up and fully operational ahead of a predicted hot summer.

The California Flats site provides renewable energy to Apple’s California operations and on-demand power for the surrounding coastal communities.

Arevon announced the project in March 2021 as part of a long-term offtake agreement with Apple. Later, in 2021, the company confirmed it would work with Tesla for energy storage on the site.
