Ukraine and SpaceX have come to an agreement that will see the eastern European state receive over 10,000 Starlink satellite dishes.
The dishes will be used for internet infrastructure for both civilian and military use.
Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister, Mykhailo Federov, had this to say to Bloomberg:
SpaceX and Musk quickly react to problems and help us. Musk assured us he would continue to support Ukraine. When we had a powerful blackout, I messaged him that day, and he momentarily reacted and has already delivered some steps. He understands the situation.
The new dishes will stabilize connections throughout the country.
They will also work in tandem with the 22,000 dishes already on the ground.
Musk and SpaceX put out a plea in the fall for the US Department of Defense to take over costs associated with Starlink in the country.
SpaceX would later withdraw this ask.
However, per Bloomberg, financial issues around funding the service are taken care of with several European nations stepping up to support the cost.
The news comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a surprise visit to the United States today.
His visit including a meeting with Joe Biden, a joint press conference and an address to a joint session of Congress.
As part of the visit, Biden will announce an additional $1.8 billion in security assistance, including Patriot missile systems and precision bomb kits.
However, this additional funding does not include covering costs associated with Starlink services.
