Porsche has made the 100,000th Taycan EV

Porsche is selling the Taycan electric car faster than it can make them, but the German automaker has hit a signification milestone and has now produced the 100,000th unit of the vehicle.

While the number may look small compared to Tesla’s models, the Taycan occupies a spot in the high-end range. It has become one of the German company’s bestselling models, even outselling the iconic 911 on several occasions.

For more context, Porsche delivered about 300,000 cars last year, and the all-electric Taycan accounted for more than 41,000 units.

The popularity of the Taycan will help Porsche achieve its electrification goals. It wants 50 percent of its car sales to be electric by 2025 and 80 percent by 2030.

Commenting on the milestone, Porsche’s VP for Model Line Taycan said:

“On 7 November, the 100,000th Taycan rolled off the production line. The milestone car left the assembly line about three years after production first started at the main plant in Zuffenhausen in September 2019. The Neptune Blue Taycan Turbo S is destined for a customer in the United Kingdom. We are very pleased to have reached this milestone in production history so quickly – despite the recent challenges posed by the semiconductor shortage and the volatile Covid situation. With the Taycan, we have made a decidedly successful start in the electric age.”

Most of the buyers are in the US, China, and UK/Ireland. The 2023 model got a driving range boost after a software update.
