Tesla will be one of the main attractions at the China International Import Expo next week as the company will debut the Model S and Model X Plaid ahead of its official launch in the country.
Joining Tesla’s two flagship vehicles will be Optimus, the company’s humanoid robot first unveiled at AI Day 2 earlier this month.
The fifth China International Import Expo is scheduled to take place from November 5 to November 10 in Shanghai.
Both the Model S and Model X Plaid have already arrived in China. A few weeks ago the Model S Plaid was spotted at a local Supercharger, with its rear bumper missing the ultrasonic sensors that Tesla had only announced were no longer being included in new vehicles the week before.
That was followed by a Model X Plaid spotted entering China earlier this week, getting a full decontamination from local authorities.
While Tesla announced Optimus will debut at the event, they did not say which version of Optimus will make an appearance.
During the AI Day 2 event, two version of humanoid robot were shown.
The first iteration, referred to as Bumblecee was built using many off-the-shelf components, and was the one that was able to walk onto the stage without assistance and wave and dance in front of the crowd.
Visually the robot was quite crude, but the second version was more polished and closer to what the production version will look like. It was still in a very early stage of development and needed help from Optimus project team members to get it on stage.
