Rivian posts impressive growth in Q3 2022 production and delivery figures

After a rough start, Rivian appears to be hitting its stride in ramping production of its electric vehicles (EVs), and also in getting those EVs into the hands of customers.

On Monday Rivian announced it had produced 7,363 vehicles at its manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois during the third quarter of 2022, while delivering 6,584 of those in the three month period.

On the production side, that is a huge 67% increase from Q2 when the fledgling automaker produced 4,401 vehicles, and a whopping 188% jump from their Q1 2022 production figure of 2,553 vehicles.

Rivian was also able to substantially increase the number of vehicles delivered. According to the figures there were 6,584 new Rivian owners in Q3, a 47% increase from Q2.

But where that number really comes into perspective is comparing it to Q1 when Rivian delivered 1,221 vehicles from January to March, or less than 50% of their quarterly production.

Now Rivian has been able to improve their transportation logistics and delivered nearly 90% of their quarterly production in Q3.

Rivian said in a press release that these figures are in line with their expectations, and reiterated their annual guidance of reaching 25,000 vehicles produced in 2022.

All of Rivian’s deliveries up to this point have been in the United States, but the company’s Q4 figures should finally include some from Canada. Last week Rivian was certified by Transport Canada and is now officially allowed to deliver cars north of the border.

The company is planning to kick off deliveries before the end of the year in British Columbia, before expanding to other parts of the country in 2023. You can read more about Rivian’s Canadian rollout plans here.
