According to CEO Elon Musk, Giga Berlin will have the world’s most advanced Paint Shop, able to produce “more layers of stunning colours that subtly change with curvature.” Thanks to some source code discovered in the mobile app, we know the first three new colours will be Mercury Silver Metallic, Deep Crimson Multicoat, and Abyss Blue Multicoat.
Since opening in March, the factory has only produced Model Y SUVs in Solid Black and White Multicoat, but with a 2-week shutdown to perform some factory upgrades now complete, the Paint Shop has produced its first vehicles in two of the new colours, Drive Tesla has learned.
This week two Model Y Performance SUVs finished in Mercury Silver Metallic and Deep Crimson Multicoat were produced on a test run. The tests appear to have gone well and the two vehicles will be sent to North America for validation.
The Paint Shop isn’t stopping there, and will also complete another test with Abyss Blue Multicoat in the next few weeks. This colour was not produced in this test run as the factory is still waiting for some supplies to arrive in order to create the new colour.
As with the other special tests Giga Berlin conducted this week, there is no timeline for when these new colours will enter production, but it is not likely to happen until next year.
So far we have only seen one of the new colours out in the open. At the factory tours during the Giga Berlin County Fair, Tesla sneakily placed a half-covered Model Y finished in Deep Crimson Multicoat in one part of the factory.
We have also seen Elon Musk’s personal Model S painted in an early version of Deep Crimson all the way back in 2020. There has also been another Model S in Deep Crimson spotted at the Fremont factory last year.
While we haven’t seen the other colours just yet, they have been visualized based on the source code which included the paint codes.
