Lucid Group is strengthening its ties with Saudi Arabia announcing a new deal on Tuesday which will see the luxury automaker deliver up to 100,000 Lucid EVs to the kingdom.
The deal covers a 10-year period in which the government will purchase at least 50,000 vehicles, with an option to purchase another 50,000 over the same time period.
Up to 2,000 vehicles will be delivered annually starting no later than Q2 2023, before increasing to between 4,000 and 7,000 by 2025.
The deal is part of Saudi Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative which aims to transform the oil-rich nation and embrace sustainable transportation and technologies.
“Delivering up to 100,000 Lucid electric vehicles in Saudi Arabia represents another pivotal moment in our acceleration of sustainable transportation worldwide. We are delighted to be supporting Saudi Arabia in achieving its sustainability goals and net zero ambitions, as outlined by Saudi Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative, by bringing our advanced luxury EVs to Saudi Arabia,” said Peter Rawlinson, Lucid’s CEO and CTO.
According to a press release announcing the deal, the government will purchase the Lucid Air sedan as well as future Lucid models built at both their existing manufacturing facility in Casa Grande, Arizona, as well as their upcoming facility in Saudi Arabia which is set to begin construction this year.
