Elon Musk gifted NFT from Turkish President Erdogan after helping with satellite launch

In January SpaceX sent Turksat 5A to orbit onboard one of their Falcon 9 rockets. As a show of thanks for helping to launch the communications satellite, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan gifted CEO Elon Musk with a non-fungible token (NFT).

Musk was presented with the gift during a video conference held on December 16, 2021.

“We’ll gift you with an NFT of satellite art created by 5,000 of our children,” Erdogan said.

Musk thanked the president for the gift, saying he looked forward to working with Turkey in the future.

The meeting covered more than just the NFT, with the two parties discussing electric autonomous vehicles, the digital economy, and the co-operation between public and private sector organizations in Turkey, according to a statement released by the president’s office.

The two also discussed the upcoming launch of Turksat 5B, which is scheduled to be sent into space on Sunday.
