GM to produce BrightDrop EV410 van at Ingersoll plant in Ontario

GM Canada’s CAMI Assembly Plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, received some big news this week. The facility will be the assembly plant for the BrightDrop EV410.

This comes nine months after GM announced the facility would produce the larger BrightDrop EV600 at the location.

Currently, the Ingersoll plant produces the Chevrolet Equinox. However, the plant will complete a re-tooling in mid-2022 to produce the new EV vans, which will allow large-scale production of the EV600 in November 2022. GM did not announce the EV410 production timeline.

The EV600 is already in production in small-volume builds in the United States. In fact, FedEx Express received the first of the vans this week and should hit the roads later this year.

The EV410 will have many of the same features as the EV600 with a smaller footprint. The first major customer for BrightDrop EV410 is Verizon.

This new vehicle announcement is positive news for CAMI Assembly Plant workers, as the line has been essentially shut down since February. Like many mainstream automakers, General Motors have shut down multiple assembly lines due to the global semiconductor chip shortage.

As per company and union spokespeople, the plant will be up and running by mid-October.
