J.D. Power ranks Tesla Superchargers and Destination Chargers as the industry’s best

In their inaugural U.S. Electric Vehicle Experience (EVX) Public Charging Study, J.D. Power has ranked Tesla Superchargers and Destination Chargers as the best in the industry.

The study, conducted in collaboration with PlugShare, measured EV owners’ level of satisfaction in public charging infrastructure at both Level 2 chargers and DC fast chargers. Between January and June 2021, a total of 6,647 owners were surveyed and asked questions about their satisfaction in 10 key areas:

  • ease of charging
  • speed of charging
  • cost of charging
  • ease of payment
  • ease of finding this location
  • convenience of this location
  • things to do while charging
  • how safe you feel at this location
  • availability of chargers
  • cleanliness of this location

Unsurprisingly, Tesla was ranked the highest in both categories.

Tesla’s Destination network of chargers had the highest overall satisfaction in the Level 2 charging category with a score of 689 points. In second place was Volta (674) followed by ChargePoint (660) in third place.

The U.S. based Blink charging network ranked the lowest with a score of 535 points, more than 100 below the industry average.

The results were even better for Tesla’s Supercharger network, which came out on top with a score of 733 points. In second place was ChargePoint (659) followed by Electrify America (644) and EVgo (592).

Tesla’s score was so high compared to the competition, they were the only ones to come in above the industry average of 680 points.

Other EV owners will soon get to enjoy what Tesla owners experience every time they plug into a Supercharger. After years of speculation, Elon Musk finally announced the Supercharger network was opening up to other automakers later this year.

No details have been provided about which EVs will be compatible, but all those owners will need to do is purchase an adapter and download the Tesla mobile app to experience the best public charging network in the world.
