According to Cox Automotive and Kelley Blue Book, electric vehicle (EV) sales are up 44.8% in Q1 of 2021. The leading sellers were the Tesla Model Y, Tesla Model 3 and Chevy Bolt EV.
When compared to the same period in 2020, EV’s are indeed exploding. EV’s sold 98,832 units in Q1 2021 compared to 68,247 at the same time last year.
In terms of actual units sold, Tesla dominated Q1. The manufacturer moved 69,300 units which equal 71% of the total US EV’s sold. The Model Y placed first, while the Model 3 took the second spot.
Rounding out the top three is the Chevy Bolt EV. The Bolt EV had nearly 10,000 sales in Q1. Finally, in fourth, the newly released Ford Mustang Mach-E.
These numbers are a surprise, as much of the United States has been in various types of lockdown with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tesla’s market dominance has continued, even with GM, Chevrolet, Ford and Volkswagen entering the EV space. The EV space is starting to crowd, but Tesla continues to lead from the front with its fleet of vehicles.
