SpaceX has secured a new $1.6 billion contract from the U.S. Space Force to deploy a series of national security satellites over the next two years.
The award covers 18 Falcon 9 launches from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California through the end of 2027. The missions will support the Space Force’s Space Based Sensing and Targeting (SBST) portfolio, a growing collection of satellite constellations designed to improve the military’s ability to detect missile threats, track airborne targets, and rapidly relay information across the battlefield.
The contract is the largest publicly announced task order awarded so far under the National Security Space Launch (NSSL) Phase 3 Lane 1 program, which allows pre-qualified commercial launch providers to compete for lower-risk national security missions.
With this latest award, SpaceX continues to expand its role not only as the Space Force’s primary launch provider but also as a key builder of the next generation of U.S. military space infrastructure.
The latest award also highlights SpaceX’s rapid launch cadence, which is unmatched by any other launch provider. Completing 18 Falcon 9 missions by the end of 2027 will require an average of roughly one launch per month from California.
